Senior Network Engineer of the Data and F5

Position: Senior Network Engineer of the Data and F5 

Job Description:  

The Senior Network Engineer of the Data and F5 is accountable for researching, designing, engineering, implementing, and supporting network infrastructure in data centers and remote locations. Develops and implements standards, procedures, and guidelines for multiple platforms and diverse environment. Tier 3 support for complex problems requiring advanced knowledge in network design and principles which may require adaptation of standardized practices or precedent. 

As a Senior Engineer, you will take on a leadership role within the department and take ownership of high profile network implementations and projects. Collaborate with project managers and other project team members to ensure deadlines are met. Must be able to communicate with individuals at all levels of management. May act as an advisor to team members to meet schedules and resolve problems.

Core Duties & Responsibilities:

  •  Develop and maintain procedures and tools for the complex local area networks, and wide area network infrastructures are   encompassing multiple technologies
  •  Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for network resource administration,   appropriate use, and disaster recovery
  •  Provide technical and operational support in all F5 BIG-IPBIG-IP F5 APM, ASM, GTM, and LTM technology areas
  •  Evaluate new network technologies and make recommendations regarding the integration of relevant technologies into the   existing network.
  •  Create and maintain network systems documentation and asset management information.
  •  Install, configure, and manage network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, wireless, and UPSs in data   centers and remote locations.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Recommend, schedule, and perform upgrades, security patches, repairs, and network improvements.
  •  Diagnose complex network issues and provide problem resolution in a timely manner.
  •  Work with remote location staff and Telco vendors to troubleshoot WAN circuits (PRI, T1, Ethernet, etc.).
  •  Provide technical support to peers and guidance to users.
  •  Keep up to date with emerging technologies and enhanced applications.
  •  Participate in the technical support on-call rotation for network support

Requirements: 

  • Advanced knowledge is of common of Layer 1 - 3 protocols (T1, PRI, Ethernet, LACP, STP, MPLS, BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, IP, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of Layer 2 Loop-Free topologies (VSS, vPC, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of IPV4 and its common underlying protocols (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, etc…). Knowledge of IPV6 is a plus
  • Understanding of web application firewalls on the F5
  • F5 Load Balancing (experience with LTM, GTM, ASM, APM) configuring, and administration of load balancers
  • F5 SSL Offloading & SSL Bridging - cyphering/uncyphering traffic from clients to the web application platform
  • F5 Modifying and creating irules to route web traffic
  • Proficient with network monitoring and troubleshooting tools such as tcpdump and Wireshark.

Required Experience 

  •  5+ years of advanced networking systems experience is required; Cisco certifications are a plus.
  •  Relevant Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  •  Experience with a wide range of Cisco products (routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless) and support services is essential.
  •  Experience with an F5 BIG-IP products
  •  5+ years F5 networks experience

Skills:

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Visio)
  • Interface with Managers and get approval for critical maintenance.
  • Excellent project management skills, the ability to manage both projects and project team members seamlessly, and the ability to work across organizational boundaries to accomplish goals
  • Willingness and ability to travel (25% of the time) to remote site locations to manage and monitor overall progress on projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to cooperatively work across IT Management and Functional Business Unit lines of management
  • Must also possess leadership skills and must be able to guide others
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent understanding of the organization’s goals and objectives
  • Excellent listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate with individuals at all levels in the Company and with various business contacts outside of the company in an articulate, professional manner

  • Must be able to work flexible hours on-site and remotely.

Physical Demands:

  • Physically able to go up and down and ladder and work 30 feet from the ground
  • Sitting for extended periods of time
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and to handle other computer components.
  • Physically able to lift and transport moderately heavy objects such as a router, switches, and peripherals.

Tools and Equipment used:

  • A mobile phone including iPhone or similar.
  • Provide tools to do the voice, and data wiring, verification and troubleshooting, Data Equipment, rack servers and maintenance on IT related hardware.
