Operation Manager Transportation PM

Position: Operations Supervisor PM shift 

Start time: 5 PM - 1.30 AM 

Job Description:

Forward Air is seeking a capable and career-oriented Operations Supervisor to lead our fast-paced shipping/dock operation. The ideal candidate will supervise and coordinate all activities of dockworkers and other support personnel.  He/she will provide planning for, direction to, and will control available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts.  In addition, he/she will provide dockworker training, performance feed-back, and provide disciplinary recommendations when necessary. This position reports directly to the Terminal Manager. 

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Ensure all work is performed according to Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications for dock operations
  • Directly supervise all activities of dockworkers and support personnel engaged in loading and unloading trucks and trailers
  • Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules
  • Provide guidance to subordinates on goals and objectives on a weekly basis
  • Maintain appropriate load plans
  • Ensure proper maintenance of facility, forklift equipment, trailers and handling supplies
  • Execute appropriate load plans and proper load balance to ensure safe vehicle operation
  • Coordinate work assignments, monitor performance, and provide training on relevant job duties
  • Maintain facility appearance, condition and security
  • Perform facility inspections
  • Assist in the loading and unloading of trailers
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Excellent leadership ability in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • Previous Supervisory experience in a LTL or Warehouse capacity
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
  • Problem solver, positive attitude
  • Forklift and general freight handling experience
  • Prior air freight experience is a plus
  • International/Import experience is a plus
  • Must possess demonstrated leadership ability
  • Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations
  • Experience with a contingent workforce during peak seasons
  • All applicants are subject to a criminal background investigation
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds
