Position: Warehouse - Dock Supervisor FT - Excellent Benefits

Job Description:

Forward Air is looking for a capable and dedicated individual to work as a Dock Supervisor. The Dock Supervisor will report to Assistant Terminal Manager and/or Terminal Manager and provides planning for, direction to, and will control available resources associated with the timely, damage-free, and safe loading/unloading of freight on assigned shifts supporting both company and customer KPI’s. In addition, the supervisor will provide dockworker training, performance feedback, and provide disciplinary recommendations when necessary.

Core Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Accountable for the management of an efficient, clean and safe LTL operation to include dock planning and set up schedules.
  • Lead, guide and direct dock employees as needed to include setting targets, monitoring performance, providing coaching, counseling and development.
  • Ensure all dock and yard work is performed according to Forward Air approved procedures, standards, and specifications for sort operations.
  • Ensure that production levels are planned and met for continuous improvement.
  • Directly supervise, coach, train, mentor and provide feedback and accountability on all activities of dock workers engaged in loading, palletizing and unloading trailers
  • Assign job tasks to workers according to unloading and loading schedules
  • Maintain appropriate load plans
  • Provide a clean, safe working environment for all personnel and visiting customers
  • Foster safe handling, loading, unloading, and storage as provided by the Department of Transportation
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Degree (GED), or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. Bachelor's Degree preferred
  • Thorough understanding of the LTL trucking industry, including basic paperwork flow preferred
  • Management, dispatch and dock experience required, preferably in LTL trucking industry
  • Strong leadership skills including the ability to hire, coach, counsel, train, mentor and terminate employees
  • Interest in long-term career development through assignments in multiple facilities across the nation
  • Ability to handle changing priorities and use good judgment in stressful situations
  • Knowledge of proper freight handling techniques
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of operations
  • Knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations
  • Experience with a contingent workforce during peak seasons
  • All applicants are subject to a criminal background investigation
  • Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds

  • Able to work any shift including nights and/or weekends and in any weather condition
